ENGLISH: The first thing you perceive when you reach Amsterdam central station, either by bus or by train, is the huge amount of bikes parked in the streets.

Happy and calm people, the Dutch population guides me to a typical flower and food market, not to miss out. As the only floating flower market in the world, The Flower market abounds with good smelling flowers and colorful tulips and bulbs to buy, export and directly plant in your home gardens. The flower stalls stand on houseboats. Simply amazing.

Among the food local markets, the Albert Cuyp Market, is the most recommended one. Open from Monday to Saturday, from 9.30 to about 5 pm. The market hosts plenty of fish, named haringhuis (herring stands) and vishandels (fish shops). Haring is a fatty, oily fish, very rich in flavor (and healthy omega 3-s). In stalls you can find it fried in all shapes and form as well. Other typical food stalls are of cheese. Gouda is the best loved Dutch cheese, which is categorized by how long it has been aged: 1 month, 4 months, 10 months, 1 year or more. It starts out its life as mild and creamy, but develops a drier texture and more intense flavor the longer it’s aged. I also recommend the various Cheese Museums around the city, some of which are free entrance and cheese tasting included, tasty experience, along with cheese selling and nice ideas for family’s presents.

A sweet treat is the stroopwafel, a typical Dutch waffle made from two thin layers of baked dough with a caramel syrup filling in the middle. You can also find it in the Albert Cuyp market. Not to confuse with waffles, which you can find topped with different flavors ranging from dark, white and milk chocolate, caramel, cinnamon, almonds, sugar, whipped cream, nuts, coconut, M&Ms, marshmallows, cherry jam and banana special.

PORTUGUÊS: A primeira coisa que você percebe quando chega na estação central de Amsterdã, de ônibus ou de trem, é a enorme quantidade de bicicletas estacionadas nas ruas.

Pessoas felizes e calmas, a população holandesa me orienta para uma mercado de flores e um mercado tipico de alimentos, duas coisas que você não deve perder. Único mercado de flores flutuante do mundo, o mercado de flores está repleto de flores cheirosas, de tulipas coloridas e bulbos para comprar, para exportar e diretamente plantar no jardim de sua casa. As bancas de flores ficam em casas flutuantes. Simplesmente incrível.

Entre os mercados locais de alimentos, o Albert Cuyp Market, é o mais recomendado. Aberto de segunda a sábado, das 09:30 até cerca de 17:00, o mercado tem peixes em abundância, nomeados haringhuis (estandes de arenque) e vishandels (lojas de peixes). Haring é um tipo de peixe gordo, oleoso, muito rico em sabor e saudável (com muito omega 3). Em algumas bancas você pode encontrá-lo frito de várias formas. Em outras bancas de comidas típicas estão os queijos. Gouda é o queijo holandês mais amado, que é categorizado pelo tempo de envelhecimento em: 1 mês, 4 meses, 10 meses, 1 ano ou mais.

Ele começa a vida como queijo suave e cremoso, mas se desenvolve como mais seco na textura e mais intenso no sabor a medida que é envelhecido. Recomendo também os vários museus de queijo ao redor da cidade, alguns dos quais são de entrada gratuita e com degustação de queijos incluída, saborosa experiência, juntamente com a venda de queijo e boas ideias de presentes para a família.

Se quiser provar doce de leite a dica é o stroopwafel, um waffle holandês típico feito com duas camadas finas de massa cozida com recheio de xarope de caramelo no meio. Você pode encontrá-lo no Albert Cuyp Market também. Não confunda com waffles, com sabores diferentes que variam de chocolate escuro, branco e com leite, caramelo, canela, amêndoas, açúcar, chantilly, nozes, coco, M&Ms, marshmallows, geléia de cereja e banana especial.
