Tea time / Hora do chá

ENGLISH - According to the Chinese tradition the first cup of tea was made by the Emperor Shennong about five thousand years ago. Over the time tea spread throughout China. After a mission of Japanese priests that went to China to learn about its culture the tea also arrived in Japan. In the sixteenth century tea finally travelled to Europe - first Portugal and then France. When the Portuguese Princess Catherine of Braganza went to England to marry the king Charles II she introduced the tea to royal court. From England tea was spread throughout the world.

Today, in Argentina, tea houses follow the British style serving tea in the late afternoon. When the black and green tea arrived in Patagonia brought by the european immigrants local fruits and flowers were added creating a unique blended taste to the traditional tea, like the combination of black tea, vanilla, cocoa and caramel or green tea, chamomile and orange peels.

PORTUGUÊS - De acordo com a tradição chinesa a primeira xícara de chá foi feita pelo Imperador Shen-Nung aproximadamente há cinco mil anos. Com o passar do tempo o chá se espalhou pela China. Depois de uma missão de religiosos japoneses que foram à China para aprender mais sobre a cultura do país o chá também chegou ao Japão. No século XVI finalmente viajou até a Europa - Primeiro Portugal e depois França. Quando a princesa portuguesa Catarina de Bragança foi para a Inglaterra para se casar com o rei Carlos II ela introduziu o chá na corte real. Da Inglaterra o chá se espalhou pelo mundo.

Hoje, na Argentina, casas de chá seguem o estilo britânico servindo chá no fim da tarde. Quando o chá preto e o verde chegaram à Patagônia trazidos pelos imigrantes europeus frutas locais e flores foram adicionadas criando um sabor único e misto a tradição do chá, como a combinação de chá preto, baunilha, cacau e caramelo ou chá verde, camomila e cascas de laranja.
