ITALY - Pompeii / Pompéia

Pompeii was completely destroyed in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Everything was violent and very fast. The inhabitants and the city were buried under tons of ash. Around 1750, because of a construction of a canal nearby this hidden treasure was discovered. The main surprise was to find so many objects and artifacts well preserved for centuries thanks to the lack of air and moisture.

During the excavation, plaster was used to fill in the voids in the ash layers that once held human bodies. This allowed one to see the exact position the person was in when he or she died.

If you are in Italy or planning to go, this is something you should include in your list. It was already visited by Goethe and Mozart and keep impressing people from all over the world.

To get there is necessary to go to Naples and take a train from there. Be prepared to spent a hole day walking on the streets while you are back in the past. Take a lot of pictures and be amazed!

Durante as escavações, uma argamassa foi usada para preencher os vazios nas camadas de cinza em que um dia houveram corpos humanos. este processo permitiu ver a exata posição que a pessoa estava quando morreu.
