Fishing and bird watching, a weekend in Saly, Senegal / Pesca e observação de aves, um fim de semana

In Senegal it is good practice to fish and to eat many different types of fish, from snapper, lobster, monkfish skewers, shrimp, prawns, squid, halibut, octopus ... accompanied by rice and/or fried potatoes. In Saly, 80 km from Dakar, you can stroll along the beach and watch the fishermen and all the community as helpers in the practice of fishing as a daily activity to provide food and marvel tourists staying for some time there.

What charmed me about Saly has been the Peace and Tranquility of the people, the beautiful ocean, the perfumed bouganvilles all around the village and houses with thatched roofs, the Village of Handcrafts, where you can meet new people who want to show you their work, either collars or bracelets, or very colorful hand-made paintings representing women’s work in the daily activity of collecting water and cooking for their families, taking care of their children, all images of strong, brave and hardworking women. The African statues and the masks are also great and very big.

If you pass by Saly, you have to visit the Somone Lagoon, where you can do bird watching, observing for instance kingfishers, pelicans, flamingos roses and herons among others. Here you cannot miss a good visit in the pirogue around the lagoon taking pictures, and get to the land where the Baobab of shells is. The Baobab is the symbol of Senegal, as well as symbol of friendship. Once you get there, you will find it as a spiritual place where you can make a wish for life by adding a shell (with a hole) in one of the secular branches of the Baobab. You have to go and do it, it's a wonderful feeling.

To eat and stay, I suggest the Résidence des Amazones, beautiful and affordable apartments all equipped to be with family and / or friends, and for eating good and fresh fish my tips are: restaurant Chez Poulo, the restaurant at the hotel Ndaali and the restaurant Africa Keur. In all these places, you can eat all kinds of fish and vegetables, good quality and with a very kind and welcoming staff.

No Senegal é uma boa pratica pescar e comer tipos diferentes de pescado: pargo, lagosta, espeto de tamboril, camarões, lula, linguados, polvo... e acompanhar tudo isso sempre com arroz e/ou com batatas fritas. Em especifico em Saly, cerca de 80 kms de Dakar, se pode passear pela praia e ver os pescadores e todos os ajudantes da comunidade pescando como atividade diária para comer e maravilhar os turistas que ficam por alí.

O que me encantou em Saly foi a Paz e a Tranquilidade das pessoas, o oceano lindo, as bouganvilles perfumadas e as casas com os tetos de palha, o Village Artesanal, onde se pode conhecer muitas pessoas que querem te mostrar seu trabalho, desde colares e pulseiras a quadros com muitas cores representando o trabalho das mulheres para coletar a água e cozinhar para a família ou cuidando de seus filhos. Imagens de mulheres sempre fortes, corajosas e trabalhadoras, ou ainda estatuas africanas de máscaras enormes.

Se passar por Saly não deixe de visitar a Lagoa de Somone, uma lagoa onde se pode observar muitas aves, como os martim-pescador, os pelicanos, os flamengos rosas e as garças, entre outras. Aqui não se pode perder um bom passeio de canoa na Lagoa para tirar fotos e ver o Baobá das conchas. O Baobá é o símbolo do Senegal e também da amizade. Ao chegar, você verá que é um lugar espiritual em que se pode fazer um pedido para o Baobá. É só colocar uma concha que tenha um buraco em um dos ramos do Baobá. Você tem que ir e fazer todo o ritual pois é uma sensação maravilhosa.
